The purpose of this project was to create a board game that utilized our knowledge of chemical reactions. We had to design the game as well as the reactions, and my group chose to model our game after a popular phone game, Clash Royale. We called our game Chemistry Royale, and used our chemicals as different spells.
Game Play Instructions Chemical Safety Guidelines Analysis of Reactions
Ion - an atom with more or less electrons than protons Cation - an atom with less electrons than protons Anion - an atom with more electrons than protons
Synthesis Reaction - a reaction where multiple elements or compounds combine to form a singular compound Combustion Reaction - a reaction where oxygen and one or more compounds combine and produce water and carbon dioxide Single Replacement Reaction - a reaction where an element reacts with a compound to create a new element and a new compound Double Replacement Reaction - a reaction where two compounds react and the cations switch to create two new compounds Decomposition Reaction - a reaction where one compound breaks up into smaller compounds and elements
This project was extremely fun and interesting. It really encouraged us to be creative, as we had the opportunity to choose basically everything about our game. We had fairly good work ethic, a few of us stayed in at lunch on many occasions, and worked on our project after school, as well as doing individual work at home. When the project first started, we worked extremely well together and easily agreed on decisions quickly. We also decided quickly that our reactions would be the spells of the game. However, I think we saved a lot of key pieces, such as which reactions to use for our game, until the end. We also could have had slightly better team work. We split into two separate groups and didn't really work together as much as we should have. I personally could have encouraged my group to share their ideas. In the end, however, we achieved our goal and made a fun, effective board game.
