In this project, we explored taxonomy, speciation, cladograms and evolution. We were given a cup of random pieces of hardware. We were told to put them in an order, with one starting as the original species. From there, we learned and explored evolution and taxonomy. We learned about what causes speciation and what speciation was. We explored mechanical, geographical, behavioral and temporal isolation and how that creates speciation. Equipped with that knowledge, we were tasked with creating a story detailing the speciation of these hardware pieces and to create a cladogram of those pieces. To create the taxonomy, we decided on base characteristics for each classification and then put pieces into their taxonomy ranks. This was an extremely fun project as I was able to work with friends of mine, so we were able to spend time outside of class working on the project. Everyone did their part, and we worked well because we all knew one another's strengths and weaknesses very well. Because of that, it was easy to play with everyone's strengths and create a well rounded, strong project. We finished our google slides presentation and story, and had plenty of time to challenge ourselves with creating a video. We made the video so that our presentation would be more interesting and entertaining. Throughout the project, I learned that I need to work on simplifying my ideas so that I will be able to complete tasks more efficiently. Rather than constantly trying to make a complex project, a simple but detailed project will be easier for an audience to understand and will be able to be straightforward and to the point. I believe that in this project I did well at delegating tasks and making sure that everyone had a say in each idea. I think that I need to continue to work on pushing my understanding on the topics that we are studying by doing my own research outside of class.
